As its fifth season is coming to a close on Tuesday, NBC has set “The Voice’s” Season 6 return.
The singing competition will be back for a special two-night premiere on Monday, Feb. 24 and Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 8/7c on both nights.
Those dates also mark the reunion of returning Season 4 coaches Shakira and Usher with Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, as was announced earlier this year.
The lack of dramatics surrounding “The Voice’s” casting of its coaches season-to-season has further separated it from the yearly dramatics surrounding Fox’s “American Idol” and “X Factor.”
NBC officially announced that Shakira and Usher would return on the upcoming season back in May.
“I am so thrilled that our ‘Voice’ family has grown from four coaches to six,” said executive producer Mark Burnett at the time.
“This show thrives on the ability of our coaches to continue to balance their enormous music careers with working on ‘The Voice’ to coach some of the best undiscovered talent in America,” he continued. “The coaching panel of Christina, Cee Lo, Adam and Blake was at the heart of this show in its first three seasons and we are so lucky to have found equal success with Shakira and Usher in Season 4. Our best seasons are ahead of us.”
Wednesday’s performance finale was the show’s lowest-rated in its history, though it still won the night for NBC. It earned a 3.0 rating/8 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and was first in total viewers with an average of 11.1 million.
On Tuesday’s Season 5 finale at 9/8c, Levine has two singers in contention for the title, Tessanne Chin and Will Champlin. Aguilera has young singer Jacquie Lee. This season marks the first time since Season 1 where a Team Blake member won’t win the competition.
