NBA to make Sterling announcement Tuesday

The SportsXchange

At a press conference Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET in Manhattan, commissioner Adam Silver will provide the findings of the NBA investigation into comments made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

Sterling was allegedly secretly recorded by his girlfriend making racist comments in a long-winded conversation made available by multiple outlets over the weekend.

The comments sent a shockwave of reactions throughout the sports world.

State Farm Insurance, CarMax and Virgin Airlines announced Monday it will step away from its sponsorship of the Clippers.

Silver instructed Sterling to lie low while the NBA investigates the authenticity of the tape recording. The racial remarks made were so powerful that even President Barack Obama responded to them on Sunday during a trip to Malaysia.

Clippers players were told by coach Doc Rivers before Sunday's playoff game against the Golden State Warriors not to comment on the situation. They made a silent protest during warmups about 20 minutes before the opening tip. They circled in the midcourt area of Oracle Arena and threw their Clippers warmup jackets on the ground, exposing team warmup T-shirts that were turned inside-out to hide any reference to the team Sterling owns.

Yahoo Sports reported Monday that Magic Johnson is interested in buying the Clippers, but it is not known if Sterling is interested in selling the team.

Johnson was particularly critical of Sterling, saying Sunday he should not be allowed to own the team. Only the NBA's owners can force him to sell.
