NBA roundup: Pistons' Dumars may step down

The SportsXchange

Joe Dumars is expected to resign as general manager of the Detroit Pistons.

Dumars, who played for the franchise in a backcourt with Isiah Thomas, became president of basketball operations in 2000 and has been part of the Pistons for 29 years.

Praised for his early work as a roster architect after the team lost centerpiece Grant Hill in Dumars' first offseason in the front office, recent moves have not panned out. The Pistons were 28-49 entering Tuesday night.

---Defensive specialist Ronnie Brewer will rejoin the Chicago Bulls for the rest of the season.

Brewer played for the Bulls in 2011-12 and was released by the Houston Rockets in February. Chicago's roster has been one player short even after picking up Jimmer Fredette.

---The Minnesota Timberwolves signed guard Othyus Jeffers for the remainder of the 2013-14 regular season, the team announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-5 Jeffers appeared in six preseason games with the Wolves this season, averaging 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game. He spent most of this season playing with the Iowa Energy in the NBA Development League, averaging 20.9 points and 9.9 rebounds in 37.7 minutes per game. Jeffers was signed to a 10-day contract by the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 24, appearing in four games and averaging 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
