NBA roundup: NBA appoints interim CEO for Clippers

The SportsXchange

Dick Parsons, former chairman of Citigroup and Time Warner, was named on Friday as interim chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Clippers by the NBA, replacing Donald Sterling, who was suspended for life because of racist comments.

Commissioner Adam Silver of the NBA said Parsons, a senior advisor at Providence Equity Partners who sits on the board of directors for the Commission on Presidential Debates, will take over immediately.

Meanwhile, a new audio tape of Sterling claiming that he is not a racist was posted by Radar Online on Friday. In the audio recording, presumed to be from a phone conversation with an unidentified listener, Sterling yells, "You know I'm not a racist!"

"You think I'm a racist?" he continues. "You think I have anything in the world but love for everybody? You don't think that! You know I'm not a racist!"

---Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant hopes the team's management will seek out his advice when they hire a new coach.

Bryant, speaking on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Thursday night, said he was not consulted when the last two coaches, Mike Brown and Mike D'Antoni, were hired.

"On the last two they didn't," Bryant said. "On the third one, I'm hoping they do."

Bryant did not have anyone specific in mind but there is an "open-door policy" in place between him and the front office. Bryant, 35, missed much of last season with a knee injury after coming back from a torn Achilles tendon. He is coming back for a 19th season and a contract that pays him $24 million annually and says he is fully healthy.

---The Golden State Warriors are planning to contact Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau and former Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni for their vacancy, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Thibodeau was an assistant with the Boston Celtics when current Warriors owner Joe Lacob was a minority owner of the Celtics when they won the NBA title in 2008. D'Antoni, who resigned as Lakers coach after the regular season after the team refused to extend his contract, is on a list of names that also includes former NBA coaches Lionel Hollins, George Karl and Jerry Sloan, and current college coaches Fred Hoiberg and Kevin Ollie.

The Warriors are looking to replace Mark Jackson, whom they fired earlier this week. They already contacted former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy about the job. Van Gundy was reportedly informed that the team has "a bushel of other candidates."

---The Sacramento Kings are asking fans to offer input to help the team make its selections in the NBA Draft next month.

The Kings are inviting would-be evaluators to analyze the prospects through their own statistical methods and submit the results through a website. Two people will be granted access to the Kings' draft room for the June 26 event.

General manager Pete D'Alessandro announced the plan as Draft 3.0 during an online chat on Friday. An advisory council selected from the candidates will be serve as consultants to the Kings during the draft process before the team settles on the two finalists.
