NBA roundup: Lakers sign G Marshall
The Los Angeles Lakers, who have been hit by a number of injuries to their backcourt, signed guard Kendall Marshall to a multi-year contract, the team announced Friday.
Marshall, a first-round pick in the 2012 NBA draft, was released by the Washington Wizards on Oct. 28, three days after he was acquired from the Phoenix Suns in a multi-player trade.
He has been playing for the Delaware 87ers of the NBA Development League since Dec. 3.
In 48 games with the Suns last season, Marshall averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 assists.
The Lakers need help in the backcourt with Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Kobe Bryant all expected to be sidelined with injuries for at least another month. Bryant is likely to be out six weeks with a broken bone in his knee.
---Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams is expected to return to action Friday night against the Brooklyn Nets after missing seven games with a knee infection, CSNPhilly.com reported.
Officially, it will be a game-time decision whether Carter-Williams plays Friday. But Carter-Williams told CBSPhilly.com that he expects to play.
---Memphis Grizzlies guard/forward Quincy Pondexter had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot and will be out indefinitely, the team announced.
Pondexter injured his foot during a Dec. 7 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
