New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony asked to come out of Monday's game against Cleveland before he suffered a knee injury in the second quarter that ended his night.
Knicks coach Mike Woodson told ESPN New York 98.7 FM on Tuesday that he erred in leaving Anthony on the floor after the All-Star said he was experiencing knee discomfort.
"Melo was hurt," Woodson said. "For him to ask me to come out of the game before he actually took that spill made me realize that something wasn't right. He's never ever, ever, even hinted about coming out of the game. I play him too much in that regard. Melo's a trooper -- he's a warrior, he's a tough kid."
The Knicks listed Anthony, the NBA's second-leading scorer at 28.2 points per game, as questionable for Wednesday night's game against Detroit with a sore knee.
---Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka was fined $25,000 by the NBA but avoided a suspension for a low blow against Clippers forward Blake Griffin during Sunday's game in Los Angeles.
Ibaka and Griffin were battling for position in the lane in the fourth quarter when Ibaka grabbed Griffin's right arm and struck him in the groin area. Griffin fell to the floor in pain.
Avoiding the suspension allowed Ibaka the chance to play Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Lakers.
