Rick Pitino, Bernard King and Gary Payton headlined a class of 12 members selected for induction into The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
The official announcement was made Monday, and new members will be inducted in September.
The class also includes ABA standout Roger Brown, former University of Houston coach Guy Lewis, African American pioneer E.B. Henderson, Brazilian star Oscar Schmidt, Knicks standout Richard Guerin, NBA executive Russ Granik, former North Carolina women's coach Sylvia Mitchell, three-time Olympic gold winner and WNBA All-Star Dawn Staley and former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian.
Spencer Haywood was told last week he had been voted in, but was told later a mistake had been made and that he was not elected to the Hall of Fame this year.
---Cleveland Cavaliers forward Luke Walton will miss Tuesday night's game against the host Indiana Pacers because of a right ankle sprain, the team announced.
Also, swingman C.J. Miles was placed on the concussion protocol process list after a re-examination.
---The Golden State Warriors announced they assigned guard Scott Machado to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League. Machado was called up by the Warriors on Sunday.
---The Chicago Bulls announced they signed forward Malcolm Thomas for the rest of the season. He was previously signed to consecutive 10-day contracts.
