NBA roundup: James, Wade sidelined; Nets sign Joseph

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade expected to sit out a second straight game Tuesday night when the Miami Heat faced the New York Knicks. Teammate Mario Chalmers also was not expected to play.

James is bothered by hamstring tightness, and Wade and Chalmers are dealing with right ankle injuries, the team announced.

The status of all three will be reassessed Wednesday, according to Heat coach Eric Spoelstra.

--Forward Kris Joseph signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets, the team announced.

In 27 games in the NBA Development League this season, Joseph is averaging 18.6 points and 4.6 rebounds.

Drafted by Boston in the second round out of Syracuse in 2012, Joseph played in six games for the Celtics this season and averaged 1.2 points.

--Veteran NBA referee Greg Willard died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was 54.

Williard was diagnosed June 11 after working 51 regular-season games and seven playoff games last season. His last game was Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals on June 3.

Willard officiated more than 1,500 NBA regular-season and playoff games during his 24 seasons in the NBA.

---The Phoenix Suns reached an agreement with president of basketball operations Lon Babby on a new two-year contract through the 2014-15 season, the team announced.

Babby, 62, was a Washington-based lawyer specializing in sports contracts and negotiations when he was hired by the Suns in 2010 to help rebuild the franchise.
