NBA-National Basketball Association roundup

July 25 (The Sports Xchange) - Michael Jordan broke a longstanding silence and spoke out Monday on police shootings and mounting racial tension across the United States. Jordan, the Chicago Bulls legend and Hall of Famer, said he will donate $1 million to the International Association of Chiefs of Police's Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. In a statement to The Undefeated, Jordan wrote, "As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers. I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well." - - Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum signed a four-year, $106 million extension. McCollum, 24, was the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2015-16, averaging 20.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in his first season in an expanded role after LaMarcus Aldridge departed before the season as a free agent. - - Two Golden State Warriors teammates, newcomer Kevin Durant and longtime mainstay Klay Thompson, led Team USA to a 106-57 rout of China in an exhibition game Sunday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Durant led the U.S. squad with 19 points in 18 minutes, while Thompson scored 17 in 19 minutes. Each hit four 3-pointers.
