NBA-National Basketball Association roundup

Feb 11 (The Sports Xchange) - Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist suffered another torn labrum during Wednesday night's game against the Indiana Pacers and will be out indefinitely. The team announced Thursday that an MRI revealed the extent of the injury to his right shoulder. It said the injury will be re-evaluated and an update on Kidd-Gilchrist's status provided after the NBA All-Star Game break this weekend. In seven games for the Hornets this season, the injury-plagued Kidd-Gilchrist is averaging 12.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists. - - - Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside was suspended for one game without pay for throwing an elbow into the head of San Antonio Spurs center Boban Marjanovic, the NBA announced. Whiteside received a flagrant 2 foul and was ejected from the contest, won 119-101 by San Antonio on Feb. 9. Whiteside will serve the suspension on Feb. 19 when the Heat visit the Atlanta Hawks. - - - The Houston Rockets are actively shopping center Dwight Howard, Yahoo Sports reported. According to the report, the Rockets have already contacted teams about the possibility of trading Howard, an eight-time All-Star. Howard, 30, is expected to opt-out in his contract this summer to become an unrestricted free agent, so the Rockets may want to get something in exchange for Howard now, rather than get nothing in return if he leaves after this season. The NBA's trade deadline is Feb. 18. - - - Denver Nuggets guard Emmanuel Mudiay and Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker were named as substitutes for two of the special events during All-Star weekend. Mudiay was named to replace injured defending champion Patrick Beverley of the Houston Rockets in the Skills Challenge during NBA All-Star weekend at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Booker will replace injured Nerlens Noel of the Philadelphia 76ers in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday in Toronto. - - - The Suns assigned guard Jordan McRae to the Bakersfield Jam of the D-League, the team announced. The move will allow McRae to play in the D-League All-Star on Saturday in Toronto. McRae ranks third in the D-League with a 23.1 scoring average. - - - (Editing by Mark Lamport-Stokes)
