Suns claim Luis Scola off amnesty waivers
LAS VEGAS – Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry walked up to Suns general manager Lance Blanks and flashed a thumbs-up and a smile.
"Good job," Gentry said.
Gentry was referring to the Suns landing former Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola off amnesty waivers on Sunday.
The Suns claimed Scola after he was amnestied by the Rockets last week. The Suns also used their amnesty clause to waive forward Josh Childress. Phoenix wouldn't have been able to claim Scola if its offer sheet to free-agent guard Eric Gordon hadn't been matched by the New Orleans Hornets.

Scola averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Rockets last season and gives the Suns a much-needed inside punch they have been lacking for years. The Suns have also added guard Goran Dragic, forward Michael Beasley and rookie point guard Kendall Marshall this offseason.
"That guy's a heck of a player," Gentry told Yahoo! Sports. "He brings leadership. He's meant a lot to the Argentinean team with the success they've had. It's just a great guy to add to your team. I don't know if there could ever be anything negative that would be out there with him on your team.
"He's just a solid guy. He really understands how to play. I'm excited about it."
