NBA suspends Rajon Rondo two games after tussle with Nets

The NBA suspended Boston Celtics star Rajon Rondo two games without pay for his role in escalating Wednesday night's scuffle with the Brooklyn Nets.

After responding to a hard foul on teammate Kevin Garnett, Rondo shoved Nets forward Kris Humphries into courtside seats on Wednesday night in Boston. Rondo, Humphries and Nets forward Gerald Wallace were ejected from the game.

Rondo will miss the Celtics' Friday night game against Portland in Boston, and Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks on the road. The ejection ended Rondo's 37-game streak of 10-plus assists, which was second in NBA history. Rondo has averaged a league-best 12.9 assists per game, along with 12.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and nearly two steals.

Wallace was fined $35,000 for escalating the altercation. Garnett was fined $25,000. Rondo didn't receive an additional fine beyond losing his paycheck for two games.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers called Rondo's response to the hard foul on Garnett "an overreaction."
