New York Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert's season has ended after he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during in the Knicks' Game 1 loss to the Miami Heat.
The Knicks said Shumpert will be out six to eight months, possibly sidelining him for the start of next season.
Shumpert tried to dribble behind his back in the third quarter, but immediately fell to the court and grabbed his left knee. He had to be carried off the court after suffering the non-contact injury. An MRI revealed the tear.
Shumpert averaged 9.5 points and 3.2 rebounds this season. He was one of the Knicks' top perimeter defenders.
