As long as Varnado clears league waivers on Tuesday afternoon, he will be eligible to a sign a 10-day contract with Miami. The Boston Celtics waived Varnado on Sunday.

Varnado had played sparsely in five games for the Celtics after a call up from Sioux Falls of the Development League.

The Heat will work out former Denver Nuggets center Chris "Birdman" Andersen on Tuesday, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Andersen took a physical for the Heat on Monday.

Varnado, 24, was a second-round pick of Miami in 2010, and has played overseas in Italy and Israel over the past two seasons. The Heat released him late in training camp in September, and he joined Sioux Falls, where he had averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3.9 blocks in 10 games this season.
