Bobcats coach Steve Clifford expected to return Monday after having stents inserted in heart

After getting two stents placed into his heart and missing Friday night's game, Charlotte Bobcats coach Steve Clifford is expected to return to the bench Monday against the Atlanta Hawks, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Charlotte's associate head coach, Patrick Ewing, will coach the Bobcats Friday night against the New York Knicks.

The team announced that Clifford had the stents inserted into his heart on Friday afternoon.

Clifford suffered chest pains at dinner Thursday evening in Charlotte and was persuaded to go to an area hospital immediately for tests and observation. Clifford, 52, is known as one of the NBA's hardest working and most diligent coaches.

The Bobcats have been one of the NBA's early season surprises, an undermanned team that has played without center Al Jefferson and still managed a 3-2 start.

Clifford, a longtime NBA assistant with New York, Houston, Orlando and the Los Angeles Lakers, has brought a tough, organized style to the Bobcats.
