NEW YORK – Somewhere from the end of the NCAA tournament to the eve of the NBA draft, Ben McLemore went from being the possible top pick to anyone's guess where he'll be selected. And the former Kansas forward is confused about why that happened.

"That's a great question," McLemore said. "I did everything I could do in these workouts. I think I did great. I feel like I competed, especially in Cleveland competing with Victor [Oladipo] and Otto Porter. It's just what people put out there."

McLemore, 20, is athletic and one of the draft's top shooters after averaging 15.9 points and making 42 percent of his 3-point attempts as a redshirt freshman last season. More recently, however, he made headlines by signing with agent Rodney Blackstock, who allegedly made payments to his AAU coach.

McLemore's conditioning has also been questioned during the draft process. He appeared out of shape during his workout with the Phoenix Suns, who have the fifth overall draft pick, one league source told Yahoo! Sports. When asked about his conditioning, McLemore immediately opened his sport coat to reveal a flat stomach covered by his dress shirt. He has been most bothered by stories that friends and family have emailed his mom about his reported poor conditioning.

"It's just life," McLemore said. "I'm about to be on that stage, the next level."

Yahoo! Sports NBA columnist Adrian Wojnarowski contributed to this story.
