Worth Smith scored 16 points and Kevin Alter had 14 points off the bench to lead Navy to a 59-50 win Sunday over Army in West Point, N.Y. Alter made 4 of 5 shots from 3-point range for the Midshipmen, who shot just 33,3 percent from the field (18 of 54) but made 47.8 percent (11 of 23) from 3-point range. Smith's points came on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor. He made both of his 3-point attempts and added eight rebounds for the Midshipmen (7-12, 1-2 Patriot League), who broke a six-game losing streak. Army managed just 31 percent shooting (15 of 48) from the field and just 10 percent (2 of 20) from 3-point range. The Black Knights (8-10, 1-2), who had won six of their previous seven games at home and swept the series between the two service academies last season, were led by Ella Ellis's 15 points and Kyle Wilson's 11. Dylan Cox added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Ellis now ranks 10th in career scoring for the Black Knights with 1,352 points. Both teams opened the game slowly, with the score just 10-8 in favor of the Midshipmen midway through the first half. Navy opened a 16-point lead with a 12-0 run in a span of 3:30 late in the first half, but a 3-pointer just before the half from Ellis cut the margin to 31-23 at halftime. The Black Knights closed to one at 34-33 with 13:44 left in the game but couldn't get any closer as the Midshipmen restored their advantage with an 11-1 run. The two teams play again Feb. 16 in Annapolis.
