What's buzzing:

Nationals' Werth goes on DL

The SportsXchange

The Washington Nationals will place right fielder Jayson Werth on the 15-day disabled list Friday night with a strained right hamstring.

The injury has sidelined Werth for more than a week. The move is retroactive to May 3, making Werth eligible to come off the DL on May 18.

The Nationals kept Werth on the roster for the past week hoping he could return, but he continues to be affected by what general manager Mike Rizzo described as a slight hamstring strain.

The 33-year-old veteran was off to a slow start before the injury, batting .260 with four home runs and 10 RBI.

Werth wasn't the only Nationals player missing for Friday night's against the Chicago Cubs. Left fielder Bryce Harper sat out after having an ingrown toenail removed. But manager Davey Johnson said Harper should be ready to play on Saturday.

To take Werth's place on the roster, the Nationals likely will recall outfielder Eury Perez or Jeff Kobernus from Class AAA Syracuse.
