Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has returned to the active roster.
As expected, the team activated their injured star from the 15-day disabled list. He replaces injured right fielder Jayson Werth, who was officially placed on the DL after having surgery on his broken left wrist.
Zimmerman, 27, was batting .224 with one home run in 68 plate appearances before missing two weeks with a sore right shoulder.
His absense intially paved the way for the arrival of top prospect Bryce Harper. The 19-year-old has batted .308 in his first eight games.
