The Washington Nationals acquired outfielder David DeJesus from the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later, CSNWashington.com reported Monday.
To make room on the roster, the Nationals released outfielder Roger Bernadina, who hit just .178 in 85 games this season.
The left-handed-hitting DeJesus, 33, is hitting .250 with six homers in 84 games this season.
Washington is 9 1/2 games out of a playoff spot, so this does not seem like a move for this season.
DeJesus' contract has a $6.5 million team option or a $1.5 million buyout for next year.
