Narain Karthikeyan has been struggling in the Formula 1 series and appears to be exploring his options. After staying near the bottom of the standings so far this season, he seems to be taking a good look at the IZOD IndyCar organization. He has not made any decisions and indicates that any decision would only be made after the end of the 2012 season. Hopefully, he will be able to find his place in the racing world so that he can show what he can really do and not just jump from series to series.
He has been racing cars since 1992 but has not really managed to have a breakthrough yet. He was the first Indian driver to test a Formula 1 car when he worked with Silverstone in 2001. His first season with the Formula 1 series was in 2005. In 2010, he tried his hand at driving in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, but again he did not seem to be happy, or particularly successful, doing that job.
There have been a number of drivers who have made the switch or contemplated making the switch over the years. Most recently, just before the 2012 season started, it was Rubens Barrichello that considered making the switch. He ultimately decided to do just that. In his first season in the IZOD IndyCar organization, Barrichello finished in 12th place overall. It is not known if he will be returning to the series. Currently, he is planning to race in December in a stock car race in Brazil.
Sometimes it seems that drivers struggle when they switch from one type of racing to another. It is entirely possible that a driver struggling in Formula 1 might be able to find more success in IndyCar depending on what the specific issue is. It may be more difficult than expected for most Formula 1 racers to drive on an oval track due to the fact that Formula 1 races do not generally occur on ovals. Due to his experience in the Camping World Truck Series, it should not be a problem to begin racing on ovals for Karthikeyan. It will certainly be interesting to see how he would do. If he is good, then that would be great. However, there is always a chance that he might not be up to racing with the other drivers.
