Napoli could face further match-fixing punishment

Napoli could be fined and face penalties such as point deductions and player bans should it be found guilty of further match-fixing attempts.

The club has been under the spotlight since former goalkeeper Matteo Gianello was accused of attempting to rig the outcome of a game at Sampdoria two seasons ago.

Although two Napoli players, Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava, allegedly refused to help Giannello, the duo could be punished for failing to report the incident.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte is currently serving a suspension for not reporting his knowledge of an attempted match-fixing scandal, when he was the coach of Siena.

The news comes after the Partenopei were punished by UEFA on Friday, following crowd disturbance in the Europa League clash against AIK Solna on September 20.

Certain sections of the Stadio San Paolo will be prohibited from seating supporters for their next European clash at home to FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on November 8.
