N. Carolina Central tops S. Carolina State 62-54

AP - Sports

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Stanton Kidd scored 20 points as North Carolina Central earned its fourth straight victory, beating South Carolina State 62-54 Monday night.

The Eagles (21-8, 14-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) have won 15 of 16 and closed out their home slate 12-2, becoming the first N.C. Central team to win 12 home games since 1989-90.

Kidd was 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Jeremy Ingram had 14 points as the Eagles connected on 53.8 percent (21 of 39) from the floor and 5 of 12 from 3-point range.

The Bulldogs (5-23, 1-14) lost despite a 38-22 rebounding advantage, mostly due to lackluster shooting. S.C. State hit just 37.3 percent (22 of 59), including 6 of 20 from deep, and also made 4 of 6 foul shots to the Eagles' 15 of 20.

Devin Joint paced the Bulldogs with 14 points and nine rebounds as they lost their third straight.
