Muhammad's father indicted on fraud charges

The father of former UCLA small forward Shabazz Muhammad was indicted on federal bank fraud and conspiracy charges Thursday and is being detained in Las Vegas pending a detention hearing, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Ron Holmes and his business partners fraudulently attained mortgage loans to buy houses from 2006 to 2009, according to the indictment. The U.S. attorney's office is trying to reclaim $2.5 million from Holmes.

Holmes was investigated by the NCAA before Muhammad played at UCLA because of questionable financial practices and after lying about his son's age.

He pleaded guilty to using fraudulent bank statements to obtaining mortgages in 1999 and had to pay a restitution fee of about $78,000 to banks and credit unions.

Muhammad is projected as a lottery pick in the NBA Draft in June.
