Moustakas doesn't second-guess decision to go for DP

Mike Moustakas did not hesitate.

After fielding a ground ball from Jhonny Peralta with runners on first and third in the eighth inning Wednesday, the Kansas City Royals third baseman opted to go for a double play instead of throwing home with the score tied at 4-4 at Detroit.

The Royals did not get the double play, as Andy Dirks' hard slide bowled over second baseman Irving Falu, allowing pinch runner Don Kelly to score the go-ahead run in the Royals' 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

Moustakas said he would make the same decision 10 out of 10 times, confident Falu would get off the throw in time.

"Dirks did a great job of breaking up the double play," Moustakas said. "He was all over Falu. Peralta was slow getting out of the box, so that's an easy double play. I'm always going to go to second on that play, but Dirks did a heck of a job to break it up."

The Royals were retired in order in the ninth as they lost their fourth straight game, their longest losing streak since dropping five straight from July 25-29.
