METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Morgan was on the field Thursday morning for the final day of the team's second week of organized team activities after he was arrested over the weekend for drunken driving.
Morgan, a third-year pro, was found asleep in his parked car early Saturday morning, according to a Louisiana State Police spokesperson, on a stretch of highway not far from the team's Metairie training facility.
Morgan was given a field sobriety test and arrested after his blood-alcohol content registered at 0.218 percent -- nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Morgan was not present for the open locker room period for reporters Thursday, but coach Sean Payton said it was a lesson learned for Morgan and his teammates. But Payton stopped short of saying if Morgan will face disciplinary actions.
"I just think each team is faced with it at some point, hopefully less than more," Payton said. "It is what it is in regards to the lesson. You hope the other players, including Joe, learn from it. It's our job to keep re-enforcing the importance of being smart, making the right decisions."
The Saints received a bit of salary-cap relief late last week when strong safety Roman Harper signed a contract extension that reduced his salary and added another year to his present deal.
NFL.com reported the extension guarantees Harper $4 million for this season and guarantees that he won't be cut.
Harper was set to make $5.25 million in base salary in 2013 with $2.6 million guaranteed when he was on the roster for the third day of the new league year.
He had a cap figure of $7.1 million, but will now count $3.66 million in 2013 after taking a pay cut that was offset by a signing bonus. He also took a cut in 2014 that dropped his cap figure from $7.9 million to $5.87 million.
Payton will hold his full-squad minicamp from June 4-6, conducting five practice sessions over the three-day period. The team will work twice on Tuesday and Wednesday and wrap things up with a single practice Thursday to conclude the third week of their OTAs.
