Rumors that Mexico international Hector Moreno may be on his way to a more prestigious club than Espanyol have been quashed by the player himself.
“I’m not thinking about leaving, just getting the club to where it deserves,” said Moreno. “For the institution, stadium and players it has, it should be higher up.”
The 25-year-old has denied that the Barcelona club is interested in cashing in this summer and stressed he is content.
“No one has told me that they want to do that,” added the former Pumas player. “I’m very happy here, I’m thankful to the institution. “
Moreno acknowledged that there was interest in signing him in the past January transfer window, including from Dutch club PSV, but added that there was no formal offer.
“In the winter market there are always approaches,” said Moreno. “There were contacts, but not formal ones. My intention was always to stay here.”
Espanyol has flourished since Mexican Javier Aguirre took charge in November last – it currently lies in 12th position in La Liga - and Moreno is keen for him to stay on past the end of the season.
“The results speak for themselves,” he stated. “If he stays, it would be welcome.”
