Monaco wins Ligue 1 promotion
Monaco will play Ligue 1 football next season after securing promotion thanks to a 1-0 victory over Nimes on Saturday.

The Rouge-et-blanc needed just a point from their trip to Stade de Costieres following Angers' failure to beat Auxerre on Friday, but they went one better than that as Ibrahima Toure ended his five-month goal drought in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

ASM - which needs a draw against Niort in the penultimate round of Ligue 2 fixtures to wrap up the league title - will now prepare for their first top-flight campaign in two years amidst mounting speculation over potential summer arrivals.

The likes of Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and striker Carlos Tevez were originally thought to be the principality side's chief personnel targets, but the club is reportedly linked with a deal to sign Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao.

Monaco was taken over by Russian benefactor Dmitry Rybolovlev in December 2011, and after a failed promotion challenge last term, a significant outlay was splashed on bringing in the likes of coach Claudio Ranieri and Argentine wonderkid Lucas Ocampos.
