RIO DE JANEIRO — Great Britain’s Mo Farah fell midway through the race, got back up and battled his way to a second straight Olympic gold medal in the men’s 10,000 meters at the Rio Games on Saturday.

Farah appeared to be accidentally tripped up by American Galen Rupp, the 10,000 silver medalist at the London Games, halfway through the race, but the world champion gradually worked his way back into the lead pack, moving into second place at one point with six laps left.

On the final lap, Kenya’s P.K. Tanui took the lead trying to outkick Farah in the final 300 meters, but Farah, with the Olympic Stadium crowd cheering him on, caught Tanui as he came off the final turn to sprint to his third Olympic gold overall in a time of 27 minutes, 5.17 seconds.

Tanui won silver in 27:05.64. Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola (27:06.26) took bronze. Rupp (27:08.92) finished fifth.
