After welcoming Toronto FC to Rio Tinto Stadium and dismantling Michael Bradley, Jermain Defoe and Co. by a 3-0 score, RSL has landed four players on Goal's MLS Team of the Week.
Between the posts, though, our goalkeeper is Chivas USA's Dan Kennedy. The veteran made four saves — including a spectacular stop on Dax McCarty — to nearly give Chivas a win in New York before settling for the 1-1 draw.
The Salt Lake contingent begins at right back, where Tony Beltran turned in a steady peformance as he hepled hold that star-studded TFC attack in check. At left back, Vancouver's Jordan Harvey carried his unlikely goal-scoring surge from 2013 into the new season with the opener in a 2-1 win over Houston.
In central defense, the Chicago Fire's Jhon Kennedy Hurtado makes the team after scoring his first goal since 2009, putting him alongside Jose Goncalves, who was a rock battling against Steven Lenhart and Chris Wondolowski in the New England Revolution's 2-1 triumph at San Jose.
The defensive midfielder is Kyle Beckerman, who controlled the tempo for RSL while winning the central midfield battle against his U.S. teammate Bradley. He's joined in the middle by Salt Lake teammate Javier Morales, whose class on the ball set up a pair of goals against Toronto. Federico Higuain also gets in after orchestrating the Columbus Crew's last-gasp win at Seattle, during which he emphatically converted a penalty kick and set up Justin Meram's winner with a quick corner kick.
On the flanks, we have a pair of Sporting Kansas City wingers. While Sal Zizzo notched a pair of assists in Kansas City's 3-2 win at Colorado, he was outdone by Graham Zusi, who bagged a goal to go along with his two helpers.
RSL's Alvaro Saborio gets the nod up top, after the Costa Rican drew and converted a penalty kick to open the scoring, then got behind Toronto's defense to complete his brace.
