Can the LA Galaxy make it a hat trick of hat tricks?
After Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane each tallied three goals in the last two LA Galaxy games, the high-octane, two-time defending MLS Cup championship side has its stars firing on all cylinders.
The team enters its road match at the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday night in fine attacking form.
The pair also combined off the bench to spark the club's mid-week 2-0 CONCACAF Champions League victory over Costa Rican side Cartagines, with Donovan assisting on a pair of Keane goals. The two are sure to put the Whitecaps' patchwork, yet resolute, back line to the test at BC Place.
Vancouver enters the match coming off mixed results, with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over San Jose being followed up by a 2-0 loss to Colorado. The club currently sits in the fifth and final playoff place, just a point behind the Galaxy for fourth place. Coincidentally, the two teams finished in those respective spots a season ago, with the Galaxy coming from behind to win their playoff wildcard round matchup en route to a second straight league crown.
This season, the scales have been more balanced between the two, with each winning a meeting on its respective home turf. The Whitecaps won 3-1 on May 11 behind a two-goal effort from Russell Teibert. The triumph ended a seven-game winless skid and served as a springboard of sorts, as the club is 7-4-3 since. One of those losses came in California against the Galaxy on July 20, as young forwards Jose Villarreal and Gyasi Zardes negated a Camilo goal for a 2-1 win.
Camilo has scored one goal since, and he remains tied for the league scoring lead with former Galaxy attacker and current Chicago Fire frontman Mike Magee on 14 goals.
