Sporting Kansas City is still chasing silverware, while D.C. United just wants to avoid making the wrong kind of history.
Just a point out of the Supporters’ Shield lead, Sporting KC hosts DCU on Friday night in a nationally televised match on NBC Sports Network.
While Sporting clinched a playoff berth last week with a 0-0 draw against Houston, DCU gave up a last-minute equalizer to Philadelphia in a 1-1 draw. With just three wins on the season, United needs to win one of its final two matches to avoid setting the MLS record for fewest wins in a season, currently held by the 2005 version of Chivas USA, who had four wins.
One bit of good news for United, which is looking for its first road win of the MLS campaign, is that stalwart center back Aurelien Collin will miss the match for Sporting KC due to yellow card accumulation. Newly minted Mexican hero Graham Zusi may play limited minutes after going the full match in the USA's win at Panama on Tuesday.
Still, United will be a heavy underdog due to its 0-13-3 road record on the season, and the fact it hasn't won in 10 league games. Anything less than three points for Sporting KC will be a big surprise as the MLS season draws towards its conclusion.
