The Columbus Crew probably picked the best possible time to visit Sporting Park.
Fresh off a win in their first match under interim coach Brian Bliss, the Crew travel to Kansas City to face a very shorthanded Sporting team. Missing from the squad due to international duty will be Graham Zusi, Matt Besler (USA), Mechack Jerome and Peterson Joseph (Haiti). Forward Dom Dwyer will also be gone, as he's been temporarily loaned back to Orlando City for its USL Pro title game.
Additionally, Sporting KC will be without Kei Kamara, but his absence will be permanent, as the Sierra Leone international forward was transferred to Middlesbrough FC of the Championship in England this week.
The home side will still be a formidable opponent, though, as it comes off a 2-1 home win against Colorado at the weekend, a result which moved the team into a first-place tie in the Eastern Conference.
Columbus, meanwhile, comes off a 2-0 midweek victory at home over Houston, in the club's first game under interim coach Brian Bliss. Longtime head coach Robert Warzycha was sacked just two days prior to the match. The Crew trail Houston and New England by five points for the final playoff spot in the East.
