  • Seattle has never lost to Portland at home in MLS, winning one and drawing one. This is the 80th meeting between the teams in all competitions, dating back to 1975 in the NASL. The Sounders have the advantage with a 41-28-10 record.

  • Sounders FC became the first MLS side to overcome a Mexican club in a two-legged tie in the CONCACAF Champions League this week, edging out Tigres 3-2 on aggregate.

  • The Timbers are searching for their first win of the season, having drawn with New York and lost to Montreal. Seattle has also lost to Montreal this year, in its only game of the MLS season thus far.

  • Portland won the Cascadia Cup last year, with Seattle finishing second.

  • Portland had to pay Seattle two draft picks for the rights to Mikael Silvestre.
