A season that started with plenty of promise will come to an end for both the San Jose Earthquakes and FC Dallas on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium. Follow GOAL.COM on Twitter
The Earthquakes won last season's Supporters' Shield, while FCD got off to a scorching hot start this season, but both teams will be on the outside looking in come playoff time.
The Quakes are still mathematically alive but to make the playoffs, San Jose needs to win against FC Dallas, Colorado to lose at Vancouver, and the Earthquakes must outscore the Rapids by at least 12 goals.
With that outcome nearly impossible, the match will instead be a celebration of the career of Ramiro Corrales. The final active player who took part in the league's inaugural 1996 campaign will retire at season's end, and San Jose will pay tribute to one of its finest servants Saturday.
The Quakes can also take solace in their most recent result, a 1-0 win over CD Heredia on Wednesday, which sees the club advance to the quarterfinals of the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League.
For FCD, the match marks the end of Schellas Hyndman's five-year tenure in charge of the club. Just last week, the manager announced he would step down at the end of the season.
