Portland will be looking to turn around its slow start to the season, and Chicago is still after its first points of the year.
The Timbers needed a late Gaston Fernandez goal to snag a point in a 1-1 Philadelphia at home, while the Fire traveled to Calfornia to play Chivas USA but came back empty-handed after a 3-2 loss.
History isn't on the side of the Fire in this one. In four meetings all-time, the Timbers have won three, with Chicago collecting just a single point in last season's 2-2 draw. The Fire came back from 2-0 down on that occasion, and will have to display that same fighting spirit to get anything out of Sunday's encounter.
Making the Fire's job harder are the injury doubts regarding two of its most important offensive peices. Reigning Major League Soccer MVP Mike Magee (hip tightness) and midfielder Chris Rolfe (foot contusion) are both listed as questionable.
For the Timbers, Steven Evans (back surgery) and Rodney Wallace (L ACL surgery) are both ruled out, while Steve Zakuani (sports hernia surgery), Kalif Alhassan (groin strain) and Pa Modou Kah (hamstring strain) are all questionable.
