MLS Preview: LA Galaxy - Vancouver Whitecaps

Is this the week that Landon Donovan finally takes possession of the all-time MLS regular season scoring record?

The question seems to be repeated before every LA Galaxy match this year, as Donovan has been tied atop the scoring charts with Jeff Cunningham since late last season. Donovan needs one goal to eclipse Cunningham and become the solitary holder of the record, but the 32-year-old has yet to find the back of the net this season despite getting into decent scoring positions.

The record will come eventually, but the Vancouver Whitecaps will be hoping to delay the celebrations by at least another week. The 'Caps head into the StubHub Center for Saturday's clash after throwing away an early lead last week to the Colorado Rapids, ultimately falling 2-1 in that match after designated player Matias Laba was sent off.

Vancouver will miss Laba's work rate and his ability to disrupt the opposition's attack Saturday, especially against a Galaxy side that seems to be putting it together offensively after yet another slow start to the season.

The Whitecaps are traditionally much poorer on the road than at home, with the StubHub Center being particularly inhospitable to the B.C.-based side, and Laba's absence will not make things any easier against a veteran LA midfield.

Despite not having clicked in the attack, LA has been superb in its own end, allowing only two goals in its first three games. The Galaxy will be aiming to maintain that tidyness at the back against a Whitecaps club that has shown it can score in bunches this year.

The match kicks off at 10:30 p.m. on MLS Live.
