The Houston Dynamo (3-4-2) welcome the Columbus Crew (3-2-3) in a midweek match between two Eastern Conference clubs that have been up-and-down in the early portion of the season (8 p.m. ET, MLS Live).
Wednesday's visitors came into the season with high expectations from new manager Gregg Berhalter, who made several offseason acquisitions with an eye toward improving from the back forward. Goalkeeper Steve Clark and center backs Michael Parkhurst and Giancarlo Gonzalez increased fans' hopes when they helped the team run off three consecutive wins to start the season, but the club hasn't picked up three points since.
The Dynamo are coming off a 4-1 victory against Chivas USA, their first win since mid-March. Giles Barnes scored his first two goals of the season, and Brad Davis also made his first breakthrough and assisted Will Bruin's fifth of the season. Historically, the club has been one of the best in the league at home, and it will hope to recapture that form Wednesday after drawing its most recent contest in front of its own fans and losing the one before that.
Young Columbus midfielder Wil Trapp is unavailable after being sent off in the Crew's 2-0 defeat at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, and Berhalter may make other alterations to his side with a second match in just four days and a home match against Vancouver on Saturday. The Crew haven't shown much depth, with only 13 different players starting the Crew's eight matches.
