It hasn't been an easy road kicking off the 2014 campaign for the Colorado Rapids, with their opening matches coming against last season's top three teams in MLS. But with a result against champion Sporting Kansas City, they can escape the stretch unbeaten.
After drawing New York 1-1 on the road and defeating Portland 2-0 at home, Colorado hosts Kansas City on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET (MLS Live). After opening the MLS season with a loss to Seattle and draw against Dallas, Kansas City got its first league win of 2014 when it notched a 1-0 win over San Jose last weekend.
After CONCACAF Champions League obligations forced Kansas City to start the season with five games in 15 days, Sporting will have enjoyed the six days of rest since its last contest.
Right back Chance Myers is questionable for Kansas City with a groin strain, while the status of Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin is in doubt because of a quad strain. The Rapids will be without left back Chris Klute (hamstring strain) and midfielder Jose Mari (suspension).
Kansas City defeated Colorado 2-1 in August in the teams' lone meeting last season.
