While it doesn't carry the same name value of some of this weekend's other MLS matches, Sunday's clash between Chivas USA and the Vancouver Whitecaps does feature two surprise Week 1 winners from the Western Conference.
Chivas outlasted Chicago in a goalfest last weekend while the Whitecaps put together a dominant performance against Supporters' Shield-holding New York.
As is the case league-wide, Vancouver and Chivas looked rusty in their opening matches, but both teams showed enough to suggest that Sunday's match could also harbor a lot of goals.
The Whitecaps have a totally rebuilt attack led by new designated player Pedro Morales, who put in a scintillating 25 minutes of work as a second-half substitute against New York. Look for the Chilean to log much more time against the Goats, which could cause problems for a back line that still needs to prove that it's no longer the worst in the league.
Chivas have their own new attacking weapons, most notably English forward Luke Moore and mulleted rookie Thomas McNamara. The youngster had an impressive professional debut, finding the back of the net and generally being a nuisance up top. Veteran Whitecaps defenders Jay DeMerit and Andy O'Brien will have their hands full if McNamara can replicate his first match.
The match kicks off at 7 p.m. ET at the StubHub Center and will available on MLS Live in the U.S. and on CTV 2 BC in Canada.
