Chivas USA in in last place. D.C. United is in last place. That just about says it all.
With 22 points from 27 games, the Goats prop up the bottom of the Western Conference. With 48 goals against, they have the worst defense. United might find it hard to capitalize however, as the Red-and-Black have found the back of the net on just 16 occasions to earn just 14 points.
United, at least, has the final of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against Portland to look forward to next month.
D.C. won last year's reverse fixture, taking a 1-0 win thanks to the now-departed Branko Boskovic. That win fits in with the historical picture, where United has taken eight of 15 matches with 3 draws and four victories for Chivas.
The Goats are dealing with a veritable injury epidemic. Daniel Atunez (L ACL reconstruction), Caleb Calvert (R 1st Metatarsal Fracture), Jaime Frias (R Ankle Sprain), Tim Melia (lumbar distectomy) and Jorge Villafaña (L 5th Toe Fracture) are all out injured, while Steven Purdy (R Hip Impingement) and Jose Manuel Rivera (R Hamstring Strain) are listed as questionable.
United has its own injury problems, led by the absence of star Chris Pontius (L leg neural tension), while Taylor Kemp (L plantar fasciitis) and Sainey Nyassi (R TFL strain) are also out and John Thorrington (R quad strain) is questionable.
