Sporting KC is in the midst of a three-game road trip, which will conclude with a midweek CONCACAF Champions League game against Olimpia in Honduras. Last week, the trip began with a disappointing 1-0 loss in San Jose.
Chicago will also be looking to bounce back from a road defeat, as the Fire lost 2-0 to New England last Saturday. Overall, though, the Fire have been in good form over the summer, as the club has posted a 7-3-2 record since June 2. Much of that success has been due to the acquisition of Mike Magee, who has eight goals in just 11 games with the team.
Despite the good form, the Fire are still on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff spots, and will require a good result against a first-place Sporting KC team that is likely to be without Kei Kamara for a second straight game due to injury. Graham Zusi, who missed the San Jose game with injury, is more likely to return.
These teams have already met twice this season, with the teams playing out a 0-0 draw at Sporting Park on March 16 and Sporting KC winning 2-1 at Toyota Park on July 7.
