Nathan Eovaldi had an excellent game, but Alex Wood one-upped him with a dominant performance that led to a 1-0 win for the Atlanta Braves over the Miami Marlins.

Nathan Eovaldi was having a series of bad starts, but one trip to Atlanta to face his old nemesis the Braves cured all ills, at least for tonight. Eovaldi was excellent through 6 2/3 innings, striking out six Braves and walking just one. His lone mistake came in the second inning. Evan Gattis led off the inning with a solo home run and put the Braves up 1-0. Twice after that, Eovaldi allowed two baserunners on board and threatened to score. But the Fish held them off and kept themselves in the game.

Unfortunately, as good as Eovalid is, Alex Wood was better and then some. Miami's offense was cripped by Wood's fantastic play. He resembled the Wood who dueled Jose Fernandez earlier this year and whiffed 11 Marlins in Miami. Tonight, Wood struck out 12 batters in eight innings and walked none, shutting out the Fish on five hits. Miami had one good chance, as they loaded the bases on three consecutive singles by Eovaldi, Christian Yelich, and Donovan Solano in the sixth. Wood then struck out Giancarlo Stanton and Casey McGehee to end the frame and the Marlins' lone threat.
