The Los Angeles Angels released 42-year-old Raul Ibanez on Saturday.

The 19-year veteran hit .157 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 190 plate appearances this season. It's a big drop from last season, when he hit .242 with 29 homers for the Mariners.

In his career with Seattle, Kansas City, Philadelphia, the New York Yankees and the Angels, Ibanez has hit .273 with 303 home runs and 1,202 RBIs.

With Ibanez gone, C.J. Cron is expected to get more playing time. In his first season, Cron is hitting .283 with four home runs and 16 RBIs.

---The Baltimore Orioles optioned right-hander Kevin Gausman to Triple-A Norfolk after Friday night's loss to the New York Yankees.

The club called up relief pitcher Brad Brach from Norfolk to take Gausman's spot on the 25-man roster.

Manager Buck Showalter said Gausman likely will start next Friday in a doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays. Gausman, one of the top prospects in baseball, is 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA in four starts with the Orioles.

---The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder Nori Aoki on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a groin injury.

Aoki did not play Wednesday and was a pinch hitter Friday.

The club recalled outfielder Justin Maxwell from Triple-A Omaha to take Aoki's spot on the 25-man roster.

---The San Francisco Giants called up second baseman Joe Panik from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The club needs to make two roster moves to activate him. They have to add Panik to the 40-man roster and remove a player from the 25-man roster.

Panik, 23, was the Giants' first-round draft pick in 2011. He is batting .321 with five home runs, 14 doubles and 50 runs in 74 games with Fresno.

---Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Startling Marte is dealing with a family matter in the Dominican Republic and will be out until Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Jose Tabata started in left field Saturday against the Chicago Cubs in place of Marte.

Marte is batting .258 with five home runs, 26 RBIs, 34 runs scored and 17 steals this season.
