MLB roundup: Rangers' Kinsler placed on disabled list

The Texas Rangers put second baseman Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday because of bruised ribs.

Kinsler was injured while sliding into third base on Saturday. He felt pain while trying to swing the bat before Sunday's game so he was placed on the DL.

An All-Star last year, Kinsler is batting .302 with seven homers this season.

The Rangers also called up top prospect Jurickson Profar from Triple-A Round Rock. Profar, 20, entered the season as the top overall prospect in baseball according to both Baseball America and

---The Los Angeles Dodgers activated infielder Mark Ellis from the 15-day disabled list. He was in the starting lineup Sunday after being out about three weeks with a strained right quadriceps muscle.

Tim Federowicz was optioned to the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque to open up a roster spot.

--- New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis is batting only .156 in 39 games this season, but he was assured by general manager Sandy Alderson that he will not be sent to the minors.

Newsday reported that Alderson approached Davis after he went hitless in four at-bats Saturday and let him know a demotion is not imminent.

---After sitting out the first 25 games of the season serving a PED-related suspension, Philadelphia Phillies Ruiz is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list after straining his right hamstring on Sunday.

Ruiz sustained the injury while running the bases in the bottom of the second inning against the Cincinnati Reds and left the game.

---Miami Marlins first baseman Logan Morrison, who is recovering from September knee surgery, is scheduled to begin playing in minor league rehab games on Monday with the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads, the Miami Herald reported.
