MLB Roundup: Pirates, Red Sox agree on 6-player deal, A's seek to extend lease

The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to trade closer Joel Hanrahan to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, according to multiple sources. CBS Sports reported that the deal involves six players, with four of them going to Pittsburgh and two to Boston. ESPN reported that the trade, which reportedly has been agreed upon by both teams, would send Hanrahan and one other player to Boston in exchange for outfielder/first baseman Jerry Sands, right-handed pitching prospect Stolmy Pimentel and two other as-yet unnamed players, with one possibly being infield prospect Jose Iglesias. Hanrahan, who is entering the final year of his contract in 2013, has recorded 76 saves over the past two seasons.

---The Oakland A's have asked to stay at O.co Coliseum for five more years. A's owner Lew Wolff sent a letter to East Bay officials Friday requesting that his team stay put for the time frame, according to the Bay Area News Group. The A's have one more year left on their lease with the Coliseum and talks to move the team to San Jose have reportedly not gone well. Wolff wrote in the letter that the team needs five more years to try to work out a deal to move the team. "We need to know if we're on the way to doing something that's mutually agreeable," Wolff told the Bay Area News Group. "Otherwise, we're going to have to find a temporary relocation somewhere, which we prefer not to do." The Coliseum has been the A's home since they moved from Kansas City in 1968.

---Outfielder Cody Ross agreed to a three-year, $26 million contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, ESPN.com reported Saturday. The deal also includes a club option with a $1 million buyout. Ross, 31, batted .267 with 22 home runs and 81 RBI for the Boston Red Sox this year. Ross has a career batting average of .262 with 122 home runs and 452 RBI over 887 games in 10 years.
