MLB roundup: Hip injury keeps Puig out of lineup

The SportsXchange

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig was not in Saturday's lineup against the Colorado Rockies because of a hip injury that has slowed him recently.

Puig was removed from Friday's game after four innings because of the injury. He also left Thursday's game after eight innings due to the sore hip that he injured while running into the right-field wall in Coors Field on July 3.

Puig, 22, was batting .392 with eight home runs and 19 RBI.

---The Houston Astros signed second baseman Jose Altuve to a four-year contract extension that runs through 2017.

The deal is worth $12.5 million with the two club options for $6 million and $6.5 million, according to multiple reports.

Altuve, 23, was an All-Star last year. He is batting .280 with 15 doubles, three home runs and 28 RBI heading into Saturday.

---The Toronto Blue Jays activated third baseman Brett Lawrie from the 15-day disabled list and assigned infielder Munenori Kawasaki to Triple-A Buffalo.

Lawrie, 23, was out nearly two months with a sprained left ankle. He went 8-for-32 with one home run in 10 minor-league rehab games. He also started the season on the DL because of a ribcage injury. Lawrie is batting .209 with five home runs in 37 games this year.

Kawasaki, 32, batted .213 in 70 games for the Blue Jays. He filled in at shortstop while Jose Reyes was on the DL with an ankle injury.
