MLB roundup: Harvey, Scherzer named starting pitchers for All-Star Game

New York Mets right-hander Matt Harvey and Detroit Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer were named the starting pitchers for Tuesday's All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York.

Harvey, in his first full season in the major leagues, will be the first pitcher to start the All-Star Game in his home ballpark since Roger Clemens at Minute Maid Park in Houston in 2004.

Harvey is 7-2 with a 2.35 ERA. He also has 147 strikeouts in 130 innings.

Scherzer won his first 13 decisions of the year before finally taking his first loss on Saturday. He heads into the All-Star Game with a 3.19 ERA with 152 strikeouts and 31 walks in 130 innings.

---Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Ben Revere will have surgery on his broken right foot on Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined 6-8 weeks, the team announced Monday.

Revere is hitting .305 with no homers and 22 stolen bases this season. He struggled at the start of the season but hit .347 in 65 games since May.

--- St. Louis Cardinals optioned right-handed reliever Keith Butler to Class AAA Memphis on Monday.

Butler has 1.98 ERA in 13 2/3 innings over 12 appearances this season.

Veteran starter Chris Carpenter was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment for Class AA Springfield on Monday night.
