MLB roundup: Fernandez, Myers win top rookie awards
In a showdown between two Cuban defectors, Miami Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez won the National League Rookie of the Year award, topping Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig in the voting.
Tampa Bay Rays right fielder Wil Myers did not arrive in the majors until June, but that did not prevent him from winning the American League Rookie of the Year.
In the NL voting by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America, Fernandez received 26 first-place votes. Puig, the runner-up, garnered the other four first-place votes. St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller finished third.
Myers, 22, also was a runaway winner, earning 23 of 30 first-place votes. Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias, who received five first-place votes, came in second place. Rays right-hander Chris Archer finished third, getting one first-place vote.

New York Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson and Seattle Mariners first baseman Kendrys Morales turned down offers Monday afternoon.

---The Minnesota Twins announced that All-Star catcher Joe Mauer will transition to first base beginning next season.
Mauer, who has sustained concussions and other injuries during his career, is making the move to decrease chances of future injuries. The Twins said they and Mauer made the decision after consulting with doctors from Mayo Clinic and team doctors.
---The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that manager Don Mattingly and nine of his coaches will be back in 2014 after finalizing contracts.
Mattingly will return for his fourth season as the Dodgers manager.
---The Seattle Mariners announced that Trent Jewett was added to new manager Lloyd McClendon's coaching staff as a bench coach.
---The Atlanta Braves will move into a new ballpark in Cobb County, Ga., starting in 2017, the team announced.
The Braves have played in Turner Field since 1997 but the team's 20-year lease expires after the 2016 season.
---Dallas-based Heritage Auctions announced that winning bids for the month-long Stan Musial auction totaled $1.2 million.
The items that belonged to the former St. Louis Cardinals great fetched more money than expected, according to Heritage. The auction ended Saturday.
