New York Mets left-handed relief pitcher Pedro Feliciano is taking a break from baseball activities after being diagnosed with having a hole in his heart, ESPN New York reported Saturday.

The small hole is located on the exterior of Feliciano's heart. Feliciano, 36, who has not pitched in the major leagues since 2010, said the condition is not life-threatening. Surgery has not yet been discussed. Feliciano's condition was discovered after he reported having an irregular heartbeat, according to Newsday. He will wear a heart monitor.

In other injury news, Chicago Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart will miss 10-14 days with a strained left quadriceps, the Chicago Tribune reported. Stewart was injured rounding first base during an intrasquad game on Wednesday. An MRI showed a mild-to-moderate strain.

Stewart is competing for a starting spot. He missed the second half of last season after having left wrist surgery.
